Hargeisa โ The opening ceremony of the *lโImproving Child Health and Well-being: Addressing Health Challenges among School-Age Children in Somalilandโ (EMPHASIS Project) has been held in Somaliland.
The five-year project is being implemented through a partnership between the University of Hargeisa and universities in Denmark, with the aim of strengthening health research focusing on school-age children in Somaliland.
A major focus of the project will be the study of anaemia, including its causes, risk factors, and effective prevention strategies. The project will also examine in depth the relationship between childrenโs health and their cognitive development, educational outcomes, school performance, physical growth, and motor abilities
The initiative is expected to generate locally relevant scientific evidence that can support the development of effective health policies, programmes, and interventions targeting school-age children.
In addition, the EMPHASIS Project will strengthen research capacity, provide training for academics and researchers, and contribute to the development of laboratory facilities. It will also promote greater collaboration among universities, government institutions, and development partners.
Through these efforts, the project seeks to ensure that research findings are translated into practical decisions and interventions that can improve the health, education, development, and future well-being of children in Somaliland.
